Hi internaute and thanks for reading my blog!

During the last weeks I loaded several small posts and of course the big one, the Ph-news from March. We had cute astronomical findings and an absence of news in particle physics, which during the last years is the news especially when done in sophisticated ways. Also, this time it involved a lab where I worked in the past, so, bragging rights.

I also wrote a serendipity piece about a special case of debunking in recent years. And an April fools’ post (a little insider’s joke-y, I have to admit) making fun of one of my pet peeves, the theory of supersymmetry; a repost of an older piece gives some more context on that. These older pieces come from the time that the Ph-word was a newsletter and this month include a science-porn comic (right, this isn’t the same as porn with science) with breathtaking art.

This week I became very literally an armchair astronomer. I got a pair of good binoculars, put a reclining armchair next to the balcony door and started watching the patch of sky visible from my home. I was very lucky since precisely these days Venus brushes past the Pleiades a couple of hours after sunset. And so there I found myself, laying back in a truly urban evening with the sounds of teenagers playing basketball and listening to rap, looking through binoculars over a highway bridge and locked-down buildings at a real star cluster and a tiny crescent. It was otherworldly and it’s one reason why I am updating the blog so early this month – so I can tell more people to join the armchair army! Have a look west in the evening over the next few days and you won’t regret it much.

(And if you look north later in the month you might even catch a comet. )

Still wanting more astrofun? You can look for a Yuri’s Night party, a series of events organized by people around the world and celebrating humanity in space each April. Because of the Situation this year most of them will be online so easier to join. If you don’t find a convenient one in the list you can always start your own and party on.
